The best games for Esports in 2021

Esports, as defined by Wikipedia “ Is a form of competition using video games”. Now, for most kids or teens, that truly does sound like an amazing career, sit and play games for a living or even cast games for Esports championships. But, before you can truly get into Esports or join a team, you need to find out what you’re good at. Or what your natural strengths are. For example, you may love CSGO, but you may not be that great at it, but on the other hand. You may be a great Dota 2 player.

So, to help the new guy to Esports, we have made a basic guide of all the popular titles and the skill strengths they require to play at a high tier.

Game 1: Apex Legends

Skill strengths: Muscle memory, hand and eye coordination, communication

Player modes: 2v2, 3v3, 5v5

After developing two excellent, but underated, Titanfall games, developer Respawn finally achieved the success it deserved, thanks to Apex Legends.

Set in the Titanfall universe, Apex Legends lets you control mercenaries instead of massive robots. Fortunately, these colorful characters come equipped with many unique and strange abilities. For example, you can travel between dimensions as Wraith or cloak yourself and create holograms as Mirage. In addition, clever communication tools keep teams coordinated.

Apex Legends’ tremendous momentum continues thanks to its ongoing tournaments. Which caught the attention of hundreds of Esports teams all around the world.

Game 2: Counter Strike: Global Offensive

Skill strengths: Hand and eye coordination, muscle memory, be able to work as a team, communication, strategy planning skills

Player modes: 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, 5v5

Valve’s Counter-Strike: Global Offensive released in 2012, backed by a long history of multiplayer FPS titles, including the original Counter-Strike and Counter-Strike: Source. Years later, the fast-paced PC game still mostly holds its own against more modern titles, partly because of its established hardcore Esports teams and its massive player community.

What mainly seems to attract a lot of players to CSGO, is its massive prize pools and the sheer mount of Tournament Organizers that host events for it. The biggest recorded prize pool for CSGO, is the PGL Major Stockholm 2021, where the prize pool will be R30 Million.

Game 3: Dota 2

Skill strengths: muscle memory, strategy planning, communitication,

Player modes: 5v5, range of custom modes

Yet another Valve developed title, Dota 2 released in 2013, and the phrase “Easy to learn, hard to master.” Seriously comes into play here.

Few titles exemplify that mantra more than Defense of the Ancients 2 (Dota 2), one of the most popular multiplayer online battle arena games on the planet.

This free-to-play MOBA tasks you with selecting one of more than 100 playable Heroes to take to the battlefield, utilizing that character’s unique abilities, play style, and attributes to help your team achieve victory.

Once you get into the game, and you build a strong team for it. You can become truly godlike in the game scene, since the game is so hard to learn.

Game 4: Fortnite

Skill strengths: muscle memory and communication

Player modes: 1v1 most of the time

Fortnite is the battle-royale game to beat. In fact, Epic Games confirmed in early 2020 that Fortnite hosted an incredible 12.3 million concurrent players in one record-breaking session, thanks to an in-game Travis Scott concert. Fortnite’s popularity is off the charts.

Fortnite has a lot going for it, many different game modes, like its food fight from 2019, its community developement section and it gets more updates then I have ever seen for any other game. No just for the game itself, but also for its store, where players can buy outfits and weapons for their characters.

Game 5: League of Legends

Skill strengths: muscle memory, strategy planning, communitication,

Player modes: 5v5

League of Legends, Riot Games’ free-to-play, multiplayer online battle arena title is, simply put, the best MOBA game out there. Its gameplay incorporates role playing, tower defense, and real-time strategy.

League of Legends’ accessibility is one of its highlights, but that does not mean it lacks complex core gameplay elements. The way skillshots, cooldowns, unique abilities, and equipment work in tandem makes League of Legends the face of MOBA gaming, outclassing the likes of Dota 2 and Heroes of the Storm.

In the end, there is many more major players in Esports, like Rainbow Six Seige and Overwatch. Our advice is, that you pick a titel you like and follow it until your comfort getting into another game.
