Games that are too violent for kids
The world of gaming has many different sides to it. There are games that are built just to waste time with, like Candy Crush. Well, others are built for Esports like CSGO and SC2. Then there is the darker side to gaming, they are the horror/ bloody titles. They are created mainly for people/players who like or enjoy that type of thing, just like there are horror movies, there just have to be horror games. It just fits. Balance is key, only joking…
And in this post, I list some video games, that I personally think are just too much for kids under the age of 13. Now, please dont take this as me saying video games cause violence in people or should you not your child play them, just cause I said so. Some children can handle the horror, well others can not. I remember being very creeped out well playing Slender Man and I used to play the old Modern Warfare and well those players used to worse than most horror titles.
Anyways, onto the article.
Game 1: Alien Isolation
Alien Isolation is a 2014 horror video game developed by Creative Assembly. Based on the horror film series, the game is set 15 years after the events of the original 1979 film and follows engineer Amanda Ripley., daughter of movie protagonist Ellen Ripley, as she investigates the disappearance of her mother.
Unlike previous game adaptations of the franchise, the game places an emphasis on stealth and survival horror gameplay, requiring the player to avoid and outsmart a single Alien creature.
Now, the reason I list this particular title, is for one it can be rather bloody and the jump scares in this game, can send anyone running, and not want to spend a night alone in the dark…
Game 2: Siren
Oh dear, this game…
The story of the game is told through the alternating perspectives of ten survivors of a supernatural disaster in the (fictional) rural Japanese town of Hanuda (Hanyūda in the Japanese version) in 2003.
These events are presented outside of chronological order and deal primarily with the efforts of the viewpoint characters to both escape the town and find answers to what has happened in the three days immediately following the disaster.
Initially presented as being merely an earthquake. The disaster is rapidly shown to be far more bizarre and wide-ranging. The majority of the population has become infected with an unknown affliction that appears to severely damage cognitive function, causing them to bleed from the eyes, become violently hostile on sight towards anyone not also infected and seemingly immortal, able to recover and heal from even the most grievous of injuries in a short time. All-natural water sources and rainfall in the town have been replaced with a strange liquid (referred to as “Redwater”) and the town, previously located in a mountainous region deep inland, has become an island surrounded on all sides by an ocean of red water with no other land in sight. Furthermore, multiple sections of the town appear to have been replaced with past versions of themselves with buildings destroyed by landslides 27 years prior, although derelict as if abandoned for decades, suddenly reappearing or replacing their more modern counterparts.
This game is confusing, scary, and just not for everyone. But if want something crazy, it is, for sure for you.
Game 3: Five Night’s At Freddy’s.
Now, everyone, kids and adults know this game very well. It has some sequels and it has been featured in many popular films and tv shows.
The games series consists of horror-themed video games in which the player is usually a night-time employee at a location connected with Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a fictional children’s restaurant. The animatronics wander the restaurant at night and the guard is instructed to watch over them. To progress through the games, the player must guard themselves against animatronics with a variety of tools.
These “animatronics” go postal to say, they kill, they give you jump scares and they chase you. It’s a like dark version of Toy Story. Can rather ruin a child’s opinion of their toys.
It should really be an adult game…
Game 4: Silent Hill
There are so many Silent Hill games and movies, it can be hard to keep up with them. But my favorite one out of them, or at least the scariest one. Has to be the second one.
For the reason, that it messes with your head and can truly mess you up mentally.
In the game: The second installment in the series follows James Sunderland searching for his deceased wife in Silent Hill after having received a letter from her informing him that she is waiting for him there. After searching in and exploring the mysterious town, he ultimately realizes her death’s true nature.
Ghosts, murder and jump scares. That game has it all.
Game 5: Outlast.
I am sorry, if you have not have heard of this game, you need to climb out of your rock and stay the hell away from it. Unless mental terror is your thing.
A basic outline of the story: Investigative journalist Miles Upshur receives an anonymous e-mail that inhumane experiments are being conducted at Mount Massive Asylum, a private mental hospital owned by the notoriously unethical Murkoff Corporation. Upon entering, Miles is shocked to discover its halls ransacked and littered with the mutilated corpses of the staff. He is informed by a dying officer of Murkoff’s private military unit that Mount Massive’s deranged inmates, known as “variants”, have escaped and are freely roaming the grounds, butchering Murkoff’s employees. The officer implores Miles to escape and reveals that the main doors can be unlocked from security control.
Moving on, Miles is suddenly ambushed by a hulking variant named Chris Walker, who knocks him unconscious. While incapacitated, Miles encounters Father Martin Archimbaud, a self-appointed priest with a bad case of multiple personality disorder, who claims Miles is his “apostle” and sabotages his escape by cutting off power to the front doors. Miles restores power, but Father Martin injects him with a drug. He shows Miles footage of “the Walrider”, a ghostly entity killing patients and personnel alike, which he claims is responsible for the asylum’s ransacking.
Yeah, I am never touching the second one. After that game, I am done with horror games. I will rather play something with some color and happiness. Okay, that does sound rather dark.
I hope you enjoyed the article.
